Mooncake Tasting and a visit to Tampopo Restaurant

22nd September 2010 (农历:八月十五) is the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) which is celebrated by most Chinese all over the world. In celebration of this, there is an Autumn Launch at Takashimaya since 10 Aug. In this launch, you can find all sorts of mooncakes and cookies from different Hotels and Restaurants. Some of them even came all the way from HongKong and Taiwan.

My friend and I visited this Launch today for some mooncakes tasting.. Noticed that for the past 2-3 years, each chef is trying to outdo one another by being creative in mooncakes making. Other than the traditional White Lotus Paste, we now have the Bird Nest, Durian, Rum, Mango... After trying a few, I find that the Snow Skin D24 Black Durian Mooncake from Home's Favourite is the best. Charcoal is being added to make the skin black and not so sweet and inside the mooncake is the D24 grade Durian paste.. It cost $52 for 4 pcs which I personally find it expensive and not worthwhile. Like my friend commented, we might as well use the money to purchase the actual D24 durian fruit which we think we would enjoy more.

After tasting the mooncakes, we went to purchase the 恒香老婆饼 from Hong Kong which happens to have a booth there.. I bought 1 box of 老婆饼 and a box of 皮蛋酥 to try..Each box cost $8 and there are 6 pcs in it. Though the packaging of this brand loses out to the other brands in HongKong but the 老婆饼 is the best.

For dinner, we went to try out the Tampopo Restaurant in B2-22 of Takashimaya.
Please check out the Food section on my reviews of the food in this restaurant.
